Hello all! Today marks anniversary 103 of the Lusitania sinking. For the past few years since the centennial, a group of us have been gathering to commemorate the event. Unfortunately, this year I haven’t been able to make my way to Liverpool, Kinsale, or Cobh to take part in the anniversary events there. Hopefully in the coming years I’ll be able to make it back out there again.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to update this site, and I hope to be able to work on small things here and there to keep the site going. By working what’s tantamount to two full-time jobs, it’s been a crazy last few years. As a result, hobbies and everything not career related has, unfortunately, gone on the back burner. That being said, if anyone is web-savvy and WordPress savvy, I’d be happy to interview additional editors. I know lots of information that’s crying out to be updated gets bottlenecked through the editor (me), and I would love to have someone able to help distribute the load.
Regarding future updates, I’ll have to do small maintenances here and there instead of trying to chomp down on huge projects that might take forever to get through. I still have one Mixed Claims Commission Docket (David Samoilescu) and almost all the Prichard Letters to go through, but I do hope they will be online at some point. Back during the centennial, with the help of historian Peter Kelly and Ellie Moffat from the Liverpool Maritime Museum to work out some arrangement of sharing Lusitania biographies and updating them as new information comes to light or erroneous information that may have crept into the record is rectified.
In the meantime, here are some old drawings of my own from several years ago of the Lusitania that I thought I’d share. They may not be entirely technically accurate, but I do say that they do show my love for the ship.
I’ll save more artwork I’ve done on the Lusitania for future posts, so that I don’t spend it all here. Thanks for reading and following!
Thanks for all you do for this site. Your artwork is beautiful
Thanks for the update, the site had slipped my mind. Always very interesting. Grandfather, James R. Readdie was on board.
Thanks to the information here it was able to help me create a Real0Time Sinking Animation for the anniversary! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MumTm4cYIbk&t=2410s
