Miss Sarah McLellan

Sarah McLellan, 36, a British national, lived in Lake Forest, Illinois, United States, near Chicago. She was on her way to Scotland. She was presumably traveling with Agnes Crosbie, Agnes Smith, and Nicholas Boyle, although she is listed on the second cabin passenger list and her traveling companions are in third class. Agnes Crosbie and Sarah McLellan survived the disaster. Agnes Smith and Nicholas Boyle did not.

Sarah married a man by the name of Duncan and passed away in Lake Forest, Illinois in the 1950s.

  1. Sarah Mclellan was my great auntie I am looking for any family members that are alive today Sarah came from Scotland

    • By coincidence we are in Ireland today, and going to visit the memorial. My interest is one of her travelling companions by the name of Nicholas Boyle. I believe she was my mothers aunt, and I was named Nicholas after her. My mothers parents were David Rome and Sarah Mellon. If you have any information I would appreciate it.

    • Sarah was my grandfather’s step-mother. According to my grandmother, Sarah was on the Lusitania in order to retrieve some items from Scotland prior to her marriage to my great-grandfather, Henry Duncan. Sarah and Henry had two sons: Henry, who was killed in action in Germany while serving in the US army during WWII and Alexander. Alexander had two sons, True and Richard. Both have passed away, Richard just last year.

  3. Hello, and thank you for that info. I have not yet traced the connection of Nicholas Boyle to my family tree. I visited the National Registry for Scotland in Edinburgh and obtained a lot of info to allow me to continue on with my searches from Canada. Have you been able to find out who employed these ladies in the U.S. I wonder if there was any records of domestic employees. I guess there may be a register of these ladies landing in the US for their work if they arrived from Scotland. Lets keep in touch. I will continue to research.

    • Thank you Winifred for that info. Can you provide me with your grandfather’s and grandmother’s name. I still do not know how they are related. My grandfather’s name was John Rome who married Sarah Mellon. I have not been too active on the registry as I too have been busy. I am hoping to spend more time on this during the summer. I sure hope we can keep in touch.
      Thanks again.

  5. Hi Nicki, my grandfathers name was John Boyle and his wife’s name was Mary Smith which was Nicholas’s parents. Mary Smith died in 1903 and my grandfather remarried Elizabeth Edgar in 1909. I know that Nicholas sister Maggie Jane Boyle immigrated to America. I do hope this is helpful in your search.
    Kind regards
    Winn
