George Bartlett, 42, was a British national from London, England. He was married to Irma Florine Rothschild of New York City. George and Irma had been visiting Irma’s sister, Mrs. Alfred S. Austrian of Chicago before booking passage on the Lusitania to return to London. They both survived.

The Bartletts were in their stateroom when the torpedo hit the ship. The felt the collision and ran up on deck. In his statement in The Norwich Mercury, he says that: “…other people seemed to be on the other decks.” Adding this to his further comments about the lifeboat they boarded seems to indicate that they were on the starboard side of the ship, and entered Lifeboat 1 or 7, since their boat was tangled while lowering and dragged under. They jumped out before it did so. This seems to be similar to the encounters of John and Leslie Morton, Chrissie Aitken, and Charles Lauriat.
