Miss Catherine Dougall

Catherine Dougall, 24, attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, United States. She was a British subject. According to the passenger list, she was from Québec City, Québec, Canada, but family states that she was aboard Lusitania where she would be transiting through England to return to South Africa.

Catherine was the daughter of John Dougall, a Scot who emigrated to South Africa in the late 1800’s, and a sister of the famous author Eugene Marais. Catherine had a brother named Robert. Catherine had been studying “cooking” in Canada and was on the way back to South Africa on the Lusitania.

Her ticket aboard Lusitania was 46065 and she stayed in cabin A-15. Catherine was lost in the Lusitania disaster. Her body was either not recovered or not identified.
