John Harman, 56, was an able-bodied seaman on Lusitania. Harman was on deck when he saw the torpedo head towards the ship. He had hardly realized what it was when the explosion happened. Harman helped launch lifeboat 15 and survived the sinking.
Harman was originally from Cork, Ireland, but at the time of the Lusitania disaster he lived at 4 Albert Terrace, Rathbourne Street in Liverpool, England. In some records, Harman’s name is recorded as “Hannan.”
