Item 243: Letter from F. Freeman concerning his son and daughter-in-law, dated 23 October 1915

77 Crossbrook Street
Waltham Cross
23.10.15

Dear Madam

I am answering your letter addressed to my son who was saved from the Lusitania, as he & his wife have now returned to British Columbia.

I am forwarding your letter & enclosure to him, & you will doubtless hear from him in time. My daughter-in-law was placed in the 1st lifeboat which was successfully launched.

My son was not picked up by either Parry or Morton, but on jumping into the sea from the sinking ship, he swam to a collapsible boat, & with a steward named Quinn was enabled to pick up many who were in the water. They afterwards transferred to a Government boat [Stormcock?] and [were] brought to Queenstown.

I sympathise very much with you on the loss of your son, & your desire to know some details of his end.

I hope my son may be able to tell you something of him.

Yours very truly
F. Freeman.
