Thomas McAfee, 28, was a third class passenger who resided in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Originally from Belfast, Ireland, he was returning to Ireland aboard Lusitania to see friends and family and enlist in the British Army to fight in World War I. He had put off sailing on an earlier ship to sail with his friend, Robert McCready. Both McAfee and McCready were lost in the Lusitania sinking.
Before moving to Canada, McAfee had worked for 12 years in the York Street Spinning Company in Belfast. He had two sisters living at 42 Summer Street, Belfast. McAfee’s pocketbook with letters and papers was found floating in the sea after the disaster. The belongings were forwarded to his sister at the Summer Street address on 30 August 1915.
