Mr. Herbert Stuart Stone

Herbert Stone (1871 ? – 1915), 43, was a United States national from New York City, New York, United States who was a passenger on and went down with the Lusitania. His ticket number was 46069, and he stayed in cabin B-10. He was survived by a widow, Mary McCormick Stone, then 36 years of age, two sons, Herbert Stuart Stone, Jr., and Melville Edwin Stone, 3rd, then 13 and 10 years of age respectively, and a daughter, Eleanor McCormick Stone, then 11 years of age. Stone was the son of Melville E. Stone of the Associated Press.

Stone had been born in 1870 or 1871 in Chicago. Herbert graduated from Harvard University with the class of 1894 and entered the publishing business. He founded and edited two magazines. His home address was 162 East 74th Street in New York City. He was a journalist, publisher, editor, and owner of the Chap-Book. He also founded Stone & Kimball publishers.

His funeral notice was in The New York Times, 1 June 1915, page 15. Services were held at St. Thomas’ Church on 5th Avenue, 2 June 1915 at 11:30 a.m.
