Ernest Townley, 56, was a British subject listed as being from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but the Galveston Daily News reported him as being from Surbiton, England, visiting North America on a business trip. He was aboard the last voyage of the Lusitania in saloon cabin (first class). His ticket number was 13003 and he stayed in cabin D-40. Townley survived the Lusitania disaster.
The Galveston Daily News reports that Townley witnessed an officer telling people who had already climbed into lifeboats that the ship was in no immediate danger and that the passengers should stay on the deck. This account would place Townley on the port side of the Lusitania during the sinking.
