MORTON, Mr. Leslie Noel
Leslie and John were brothers from Liverpool. Had been on the Naiad. They initially were going to be passengers but were hired on as deckhands along with 6 others from the Naiad. Some of the Lusitania’s crew from the Western voyage jumped ship once the ship arrived in New York to avoid conscription in the British Army. Since these young men were experienced they were signed on as crew. Their father lived in Leeds. John and Leslie survived. (Hickey/Smith, pages 52, 101, 121, 171, 183+, 187, 195.) Leslie later received the Silver medal for Gallantry in Saving Life at Sea (Internet: They are mentioned in Ballard’s book on pages 81-83, 87, 99, 113.  Leslie died in 1972. (Simpson, pages 158, 171)
